Sue’s block courses begin with the very popular Know Your Camera lesson and finishes up after 8 lessons with a portfolio submission, advice and critique and the satisfaction that you will have a better understanding on how to use your camera, how it works, what to do with the images afterwards, and of course a renewed inspiration for photography

Lessons:

There are 8 lessons in total, this is our final lesson held on the studio premises, and the last one this year.

Each lesson is 3 hours long, held on Wednesday evenings commencing at 6:30pm with the exception of the two Saturday practical lessons so please check the dates carefully to ensure you can commit to completing the entire course. There is a maximum of 12 people per course so book early to guarantee a place.

Who can attend:

This course is designed for people with their own digital SLR cameras, and those at a beginner or novice to an intermediate level of photography. Minimum age is 15 or year 9 unless a parent joins the course with the child.

Each lesson is 3 hours long, held on Wednesday evenings commencing at 6:30pm with the exception of the two Saturday practical lessons so please check the dates carefully to ensure you can commit to completing the entire course. There is a maximum of 12 people per course so book early to guarantee a place.

Who can attend:

This course is designed for people with their own digital SLR cameras, and those at a beginner or novice to an intermediate level of photography. Minimum age is 15 or year 9 unless a parent joins the course and accompanies the child - then from age 12 is accepted.

 


 

LESSON ONE: Know Your Camera

 

The first lesson we will go through the basics of a digital SLR camera. In this lesson we change your thinking from that of a camera holder to a photographer, concentrating on the manual settings and full capabilities of your camera.

LESSON TWO: Lighting & Composition

 

Photography is often described as 'painting with light'. Indeed lighting is possibly the single most important aspect to creating a gorgeous photo, once that is achieved it is the composition that makes your photo stand out from the rest.

LESSON THREE: People and Posing

 

A photograph turns into a portrait when the photographer has the skill and ability to relax their subject/s and capture their true personality. This lesson is our tips and tricks for photographing people.

LESSON FOUR: Practical Location Session

 

Now with our newfound knowledge of our cameras, we head outdoors and put some of our new skills to practice. This is one of the most popular lessons, and really cements in a lot of what we have covered.

LESSON SEVEN: Printing and Products

 

The best photos are those that are printed, displayed and admired. Too many beautiful photos today never leave our phones or computers meaning they are most likely unavailable for future generations.

LESSON FIVE: Post Production

 

First we get it right in camera, then we learn what to do next. In today's digital age post production is an important part of the photography process. Just as the dark room was pre-digital.

LESSON BREAK: Portfolio preparation

 

We have a week's break in our course to allow our students to complete a six image portfolio to present at the final lesson for advice and even judging.

LESSON EIGHT: Portfolio, Advice and Critique evening

 

Perhaps the most important part of learning any new skill is receiving the feedback, critique and advice afterwards. By asking you to submit a portfolio we are encouraging you to also look at your own work with a new understanding.
